David Stark is Arthur Lehman Professor of Sociology at Columbia University where he directs the Center on Organizational Innovation. A leading researcher in the field of economic sociology, Stark uses a broad range of methods -- ethnographic, network analytic, and experimental -- to study how people answer the question: What's valuable? His research has been supported by a Guggenheim Fellowship, numerous grants from the National Science Foundation, and a five-year Advanced career award from the European Research Council. Recent publications include: The Performance Complex: Competition and Competitions in Social Life (Oxford U Press); Practicing Sociology: Tacit Knowledge for the Social Scientific Craft (Columbia U Press); "Racial Attention Deficit" (Science Advances); and "Principles of Algorithmic Management” (Organization Theory).
