40th and 41st Cycle

Programme Structure

During the three-year PhD programme, in order to obtain the PhD title, each PhD student must acquire 180 Doctoral Credits (DC).

DC are obtained through:

  • Learning activities (36 DC)
  • Research activities (144 DC), certified by the supervisor.

PhD student must agree on their training activities with their supervisors, who will certify their completion. Each DC related to training corresponds to 25 hours of work: this includes classroom hours (including seminars and conferences) and, where applicable, hours of individual study aimed at passing an examination or achieving a qualification.

Regarding training activities, the doctoral programme offers the following pathway:

  • Common learning activities (15 DC): this consists of a series of training activities organised by the Doctoral Programme in collaboration with the Department of History and Cultures. Attendance, independent study, and the achievement of a qualification are required.
  • Individual learning activities (21 DCs): these activities should be agreed upon with the supervisor based on the research project.

For further details on the training pathway, please refer to the document in the Annex.
