Programme Structure
The main activity of PhD students will be the research for the fulfilment of the final PhD thesis. This will involve different activities according to the thesis subject and the methodologies which will be employed: research in libraries and archives for collecting sources, critical analysis of the sources, reconstruction of the scientific state of the art; fieldwork with ethnographical methodologies; media analysis and mapping; theoretical reflection on political concepts; philological analysis.
PhD students are required to.
Activities organized each year for all the PhD students of the active cycles:
- Seminar of 16 hours organized by the Academic Board;
- Training of 5 hours on project design for research in social sciences and humanities;
- Other seminars organized by the Senior PhD students for a total of 9 hours;
First year:
- 1 master’s degree course for 30 hours;
- 2 mini-courses taken from the Senior Seminar of the Master’s degree in Global Cultures;
Second year:
- Teaching activities to be agreed with the supervisors for a total of 10 hours;
- Presentation to the Academic Board a scientific product related to the final thesis that can subject to peer review for publication;
Third year:
- Teaching activities to be agreed with the supervisors for a total of 20 hours;
- Proposal of article for peer reviewed journal and/or chapter of book or monograph for publication;
- Thesis submission and final exam;
As part of their training, PhD students will be encouraged to participate to international conferences and summer schools organized by the PhD program, as well as by international and Italian research institutions and to organize graduate conferences on topics of common interest for groups of PhD candidates.
