Lecturer: Claudia Sala
Duration: 12 hours
Learning outcomes: At the end of the course the PhD student will be acquainted with the main statistical concepts used in Physics and Life Science. The PhD student will be confident with the fundamentals of parametric and non-parametric inferential statistics and linear models. The PhD student will be aware of the problems of bias and inflation and will know the basics of data harmonisation, meta-analysis, and mixed-linear models.
Exam: The exam consists of submitting a report on a statistical analysis project based on a dataset. The student must identify an appropriate dataset (examples and possible sources will be provided during the course), formulate the relevant research questions, and apply the statistical techniques learned during the course to provide data-driven answers to those questions.
