Entanglement and Quantum Information

Lecturers: C. Degli Esposti Boschi (CNR) and R. Nepomechie (University of Miami)

Duration: 24 hours in Spring

Schedule:  Each lecture is from 10am to 12am in Sala Riunioni 2nd floor, via Irnerio 46. The lectures of the First Part will be held on 8, 11, 15, 18, 22, 25 May, while the lectures of the Second Part will be held on 5, 6, 12, 15, 19, 22 June.

Programme: 

First Part (12 hours taught by Degli Esposti Boschi)

  • Density matrices (pure and mixed); Complements on the theory of measurements.
  • Separable vs entanglement states; Schmidt decomposition, entanglement entropy, other criteria and witnesses
  • Entanglement-based Protocols: EPR and Bell inequalities; Teleportation
  • Qubits implementation and routes to Quantum Computation
  • The problem of quantum noise and typical examples

 

Second Part (12 hours taught by Nepomechie)

  • Review of quantum computing basics
  • Simple protocols and Qiskit
      - Quantum dense coding
      - Quantum teleportation
      - IBM Q devices and simulators; Qiskit
  • Quantum algorithms (as time permits)
