Topics in Biological Physics

Lecturer: Emanuele Paci (Unibo)

Duration: 12 hours

Dates: Berti Pichat 6/2 - Aula BP-2B,
February 15, 21, 22, 28, 29,  from 11:00 to 13:00
March 6, from 13:00 to 15:00.

Learning outcomes: The overall focus of the course is on the emergence of life from fundamental physical laws in the post-genomic era. Genetic information, now available in full for most organisms, defines the chemical and physical properties of molecules that make life possible. At the end of the course the student will acquire a broad understanding of diverse, current topics in life sciences and the importance of fundamental physics in addressing them. They will be able to use theoretical and computational methods to predict properties of biomolecules by application of statistical mechanics and advanced experimental methods currently available to investigate the relation between genotype and phenotype.
