Applicants holding any Master’s degree or an equivalent second-level qualification are eligible to apply. Candidates who have not yet obtained their degree at the application deadline may be admitted conditionally, provided that the degree is awarded before enrolment is finalised and no later than the official start date of the programme. Only documents written in Italian or English will be considered. Applicants with degrees obtained abroad follow the same admission procedure as graduates from Italian universities. Admitted candidates must submit, within three months of the programme start, the documentation required to verify the authenticity and equivalence of their qualification, including original documents if requested. Failure to comply may result in exclusion from the PhD programme and reimbursement of any fellowship payments received. Full details on evaluation criteria, selection procedures, and the number of available fellowships are provided in the official call for applications, published annually during the second admission round, typically between mid-May and mid-June.
The final examination consists of a 15-minute oral presentation of the research work, followed by approximately 5 minutes for questions and discussion. The presentation may be delivered in either Italian or English.
