PhD programme

The PhD program in Data Science and Computation aims to provide a comprehensive educational framework for developing experts proficient in conducting research within academic and industrial environments, as well as assuming professional roles in management within the expansive domain of data science and computational techniques. The primary career pathways include academic positions, research roles in industries or institutions, and leading positions in industries, institutions, and organizations where data science is a key focus.

Originally established through a collaboration between the Golinelli Foundation, the University of Bologna (Alma Mater Studiorum), and the Polytechnic University of Milan, the program commenced in the 2017-2018 Academic Year under the coordination of Prof. Andrea Cavalli. Currently, the collaboration has the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN) and the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT, Genoa) as consortium partners, and it is coordinated by Prof. Daniele Bonacorsi. The program benefits from active partnerships with key players in the topical area, such as the Interuniversity Consortium and Supercomputing Center (CINECA) and various national and international research and industrial organizations.

The PhD program in Data Science and Computation is accredited by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR).
