ABSTRACT
Superconductors own negligible electrical resistance and very high current density (ten to hundreds times the one of the copper). Superconductors are the enabling materials for thermonuclear fusion energy systems, nuclear magnetic resonance apparatus for life science research, and high field magnets for biomedical applications and high energy physics (e.g., the LHC accelerator at CERN in Geneva). Their exceptional properties also allow the development of power electrical devices with unachieved performance as well as new functionalities for electric power grid and electric transportation. In this course the state of the art of practical HTS materials is first reviewed. Superconductor devices for power energy are then discussed. Basic concepts are resumed, and design methods and state of development are outlined.
Further information about the schedule, the minimum attendance rate and the exam format is outlined HERE and detailed by the instructor during the course.
