The Vector Network Analyzer: operating principles and applications

The course will be held by dott. Gian Piero Gibiino and is part of the training provided for IBES PhD Students - a.y.2022/2023

  • Date: 26 OCTOBER 2023  from 11:00 to 18:00

  • Event location: 11am-1pm Room 3.1 & 2-6pm Room 1.5 - Department of Electrical, Electronic, and Information Engineering "Guglielmo Marconi" DEI - Viale Risorgimento, 2 - Bologna - In presence and online event

  • Type: IBES Course

ABSTRACT

The Course focuses on the working principles of vector network analyzers (VNAs) for the high-frequency characterization of electrical components/sub-systems and material properties. Starting from the formulation of scattering parameters theory for linear networks, the Course addresses the main hardware elements of a modern VNA and the corresponding calibration techniques. An overview of the applications in the context of component parameter/material property identification in the frequency domain, as well as time-domain reflectometry, will be discussed.
