Seminar Prof. Luca Mortarini (University of Milan) between Dec 3 and Jan 14. Details on the flyer attached
Date:
The Breathing Planet: Turbulence and Biosphere–Atmosphere Coupling, held by Prof. Luca Mortarini (University of Milan), is an advanced course dedicated to the coupled dynamics of the biosphere–atmosphere. The course addresses the physical and biological processes governing the exchanges of energy, water, and carbon between the Earth's surface and the atmosphere, with particular attention to the role of turbulence and its ecological and micrometeorological implications.
The program, based on an interdisciplinary approach, covers fundamental topics such as: the biogeochemical nature of biosphere-atmosphere exchanges, nonlinearity of processes, surface energy balance and net primary productivity, structure and physics of the planetary boundary layer, atmospheric stability, turbulent flow behavior above forests and urban canopies, flow modeling, and LES simulations as “digital twins” of ecosystems. The course consists of a total of 15 hours (3 ECTS), distributed between December 2025 and January 2026 at various locations of the Department of Earth Sciences “A. Desio.”
The official poster and detailed program are included in the attached document.
Registrations are open until Wednesday, December 3, inclusive.
