Cognitive Sciences

The curriculum offers PhD candidates the opportunity to focus on cognitive psychology using experimental laboratory techniques and interaction psychology by refining qualitative analysis techniques of interaction systems. The main themes and research areas include:

  • attention;
  • objects and action;
  • affordances;
  • the role of the body in cognition;
  • body sense;
  • language and perceptual, motor, and emotional systems;
  • emotions, and the sensorimotor system;
  • numerical cognition and its relation to embodied cognition;
  • social cognition;
  • multimodal analysis (verbal, gestural, proxemic, prosodic) of interaction systems;
  • situated and distributed cognition in both ordinary and institutional activity systems;
  • discursive and communication psychology;
  • human and artificial intelligence, neuromorphic computing and neuronal simulation.
