The PhD Program in Earth, Life and Environmental Sciences (STVA) embrace a broad spectrum of fundamental and applied disciplines essential for investigating the evolution of life, the superficial and deep processes of the Earth and the planets, current and past ecosystems, geological risks, and biodiversity loss and issues related to the management of the environment and its resources.

PhD Days 23-24 September 2025

As previously announced, the admission exam for progression to the next year/defense for the 38th, 39th, and 40th PhD cycles will take place on September 23–24, 2025, from 9:00 AM to approximately 6:00 PM. All PhD candidates, supervisors, and members of the PhD Board are required to attend (either in person or online) on both days. Attendance is strictly compulsory. However, if you have valid reasons for being absent in person, please provide justification so that you may attend the STVA PhD Days online.
The schedule is very tight, so please make sure to stay on time—punctuality will be part of your evaluation.

Presentation times are as follows:

38th cycle: 20 minutes (17 min oral presentation + 3 min Q&A)

39th cycle: 15 minutes (12 min oral presentation + 3 min Q&A)

40th cycle: 10 minutes (7 min oral presentation + 3 min Q&A)
