The SIRA (Italian Society for the Restoration of Architecture) in 2023 published a Guideline Document for the quality of architectural restoration projects. This document was elaborated with the contribution of the scientific and professional community during the 3rd Conference of the Scientific Society, held in Naples in July 2023 (https://sira-restauroarchitettonico.it/pubblicazioni-sira/atticonvegno-nazionale-sira/). The Document illustrates a systematic and coordinated approach to the project for the conservation of cultural heritage, including restoration, study, prevention, and maintenance activities. In addition to providing professional updates, it interprets current regulations, such as the New Procurement Code, applying them to cultural heritage assets and outlining criteria for quality and effective interventions. The days that led to the drafting of this document were aimed at declining the current regulations for real estate of cultural value, providing a clear and up-to-date picture of the specificity of architectural restoration and the criteria to be applied to pursue the design of interventions of adequate quality, timeliness, and effectiveness, necessary to meet the needs of the heritage in terms of conservation, enhancement and reuse.

The Ministry for Culture (MiC) through the General Directorate for Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape participated in the drafting and shared the assumptions and outcomes of this research, with the main objective of increasing the knowledge and awareness of planners operating in the territories regarding the complexity of the architectural restoration project. The meetings organised throughout Italy by the Superintendencies, the Federations of the Associations of Architects and Engineers, with the help of SIRA, are dedicated to sharing the contents of the Document and its potential role in professional operations, focusing on some salient aspects, of an applicative nature, also based on real examples.
