Training contents and objectives
The training module aims to provide PhD students with knowledge and skills and a
critical look at the relationship between research, design and innovation. Guest lecturers, research exponents, innovators who
are developing approaches and methodologies oriented to the identification and creation of
solutions for complex systems will be invited as guests. PhD students will be involved in a proactive process of
training through 2 meetings organised in 8-hour modules with compulsory attendance.
The didactic activity proposes to the students of the Doctorate Course in Architecture and Cultures of the
Project a series of lectures and workshops dedicated to the research and design processes enabled by the
game. The seminar proposes a reflection on the integration of experimentation linked to the
video game medium in the context of project cultures, opening up new research spaces and
analysing how game design can be a fertile ground for innovating
research and innovation processes. The module lectures are held in collaboration with the
Playable Heritage project of the Department of Architecture and in collaboration with the Feevale University
of Novo Hamburgo in Brazil and the Centre for Creative Cultural Industries. The teaching activity is
also open to all students who participated in the “Playable Heritage” project.
During the two days, talks will be given by researchers and operators in the video game industry
to analyse how the language of video games can represent an
innovative way of relating to tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
During the two days the progress of the project ‘Playable Heritage:
international workshop for the development of scientific and cultural exchange processes on the
disciplines of Game Design and Cultural Heritage’, carried out in collaboration between the CdL in
Industrial Product Design (L4) and CdLM in Advanced Design (LM12) of UNIBO, and the
Degree Course in Digital Game Development of the Feevale University of Novo Hamburgo, will be presented. The activities of the
project focused on the mutual transfer of skills in the disciplines of the
project, with a specific interest in the processes of valorisation and preservation of cultural heritage
through the language and technologies of video games.
The teaching activity will offer students a reflection on the ways in which the game
can be a means of investigation in different disciplinary contexts. Starting from the
doctoral research of the workshop participants, possible strategies for the development of
research methodologies, data collection, dissemination of results, and critical reflection will be discussed
through the forms of interaction and expression enabled by the game
