PhD programme - 40th Cycle

The Biocomputational, Biotechnology, Pharmaceutial and Pharmacology (B2P2) training portfolio has been designed to provide PhD students with essential scientific skills in pharmacy and biotechnology, as well as transferable skills in communication, writing, IP and knowledge transfer, and ethical issues.

The research and training activities are qualified in Doctoral Credits (DCs). The DCs measure the workload required of the doctoral student in research, training and teaching activities in order to obtain the PhD title.

PhD students must comply with the requirements reported in the attached file Credit allocation (refered to the Highlights section below).

PhD students are required to obtain 180 DCs over the three years; these are distributed between research activities (144 DCs) and training activities (36 DCs).

The DCs that should be acquired over the three years are listed below:

  • By the end of the 1st year: 13 DCs (recommended)
  • By the end of the 2nd year: 26 DCs (recommended)
  • By the end of the 3rd year: 36 DCs

DCs are acquired by participating in the PhD training activities offered by the PhD Course (refer to the attached files Training Activities and Training Activities - Class schedule below). Precise dates and methods of attending the activities are communicated via e-mail. The B2P2 training program  includes a structured combination of disciplinary and interdisciplinary courses, research seminars, soft-skills, and a range of extracurricular learning opportunities (Summer and Winter Schools - Department of Pharmacy and Biotechnology). Students also recive supplementary instruction and deliver tutoring throughout their studies. As part of their training, doctoral candidates are strongly encouraged to present and disseminate their research findings at local, national, and international conferences and workshops.

In addition, PhD students may fulfill their required DCs by attending the Transferable skills courses offered by the University of Bologna, the activities organized by the Department of Pharmacy and Biotechnology (Events - Department of Pharmacy and Biotechnology and by the Institute for Advanced Studies of the University of Bologna (Lectures - Institute for Advanced Studies) , as well as by participating in approved academic events.

The training of doctoral students is completed by a mandatory period abroad, not less than 6 months, at Universities or research centers. Refer to the attached file PhD Ambassador Announcement (highlights section below).
