PhD Bologna Award 2025

Luigi Brogno and Ilaria Delfini, both PhD graduates of the 37th cycle in Future Earth, Climate Change and Societal Challenges, have won the PhD Bologna Award. The recognition was conferred on the 18th September 2025, by the Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna and Banca di Bologna, for PhD Theses demonstrating a potential social impact on the city of Bologna.
The awarded theses are:
  • “Risk assessment for climate adaptation taking into account nature-based solutions, geophysical processes and multidisciplinarity” by Luigi Brogno;
  • “Dynamic modeling of multi-layered unconfined and confined aquifers in the presence of climate change” by Ilaria Delfini.
Furthermore, Debora Casoli, another PhD of the 37th cycle, was invited as a lecturer to the award ceremony with the talk “The Transformative Journey in the Complexity of Knowledge: the PhD between Paradoxes, Personal Growth and Bridges Between Worlds”.
