ABSTRACT

This course aims to investigate one of the most popular estimation schemes, i.e., the so-called Extended Kalman Filter (EKF). We review EKF basics in the context of deterministic systems. With a focus on one of the EKF variants and with the support of tools for the analysis of non-linear system stability, we check that EKF can be made semi-globally asymptotically stable provided that the "data richness" is tunable. Finally, we apply EKF for the estimation of the attitude of rigid bodies.
