Extended Kalman Filter

The course will be held by dott. Nicola Mimmo and is part of the training provided for IBES PhD Students (a.y.2023/2024) within the Automatic Control and Operational Research (ARO) curriculum.

  • Date:

    23 FEBRUARY 2024
     from 9:00 to 11:00
  • Event location: Sala Giunta DEI - Department of Electrical, Electronic, and Information Engineering "Guglielmo Marconi" DEI - Viale Risorgimento, 2 - Bologna

  • Type: IBES Course

This course aims to investigate one of the most popular estimation schemes, i.e., the so-called Extended Kalman Filter (EKF). We review EKF basics in the context of deterministic systems. With a focus on one of the EKF variants and with the support of tools for the analysis of non-linear system stability, we check that EKF can be made semi-globally asymptotically stable provided that the "data richness" is tunable. Finally, we apply EKF for the estimation of the attitude of rigid bodies.
