     from 14:30 to 18:00
  • Event location: Auletta DEI - Department of Electrical, Electronic, and Information Engineering "Guglielmo Marconi" DEI - Viale Risorgimento, 2 - Bologna - In presence and online event

  • Type: IBES Course

ABSTRACT

The course starts with a review of the main physical features of non-thermal plasmas, produced by gas discharges. The main differences between fluid and kinetic approaches for numerical simulations are highlited from the perspective of modelling non-equilibrium phoenomena. The fundamentals of the Particle-In-Cell technique (also widely employed in semiconductor modelling) are presented. Participants are guided in the development of a simple 1D electrostatic collisionless PIC code, to be subsequently extended to include a Monte Carlo Collision module for chemical reactions.
