Opportunities for international graduates

The doctoral program promotes the international training of PhD students through integration into international networks and publications with international impact. PhD students will benefit from additional funding for their stay abroad (minimum 6 months) and from numerous agreements with foreign universities and research institutions (double degree), both existing and newly activated. The program includes integration into international research networks promoted or led by members of the faculty board.

The training path also aims to encourage the participation of PhD students from various international backgrounds. In this regard, the doctoral program implements specific promotional strategies within international scholarship programs aimed at candidates with qualifying degrees from foreign universities (China, Brazil, Chile) and strengthens existing collaborations with European universities and research centers (e.g., Lyon, Sorbonne Paris, Rouen, Tours, Warwick, Warsaw).

Similarly, existing relationships with German universities, with which there are active agreements (double degree programs, such as with the Universities of Bielefeld, Köln) or established research collaborations and co-supervised doctoral projects (e.g., Heidelberg, Münster), offer joint training opportunities.

Notably, the doctoral program's participation in the UNA Europa initiative has led to the activation of a joint doctoral program in Cultural Heritage, as well as a framework agreement with the European University Institute (EUI). This agreement includes, among other objectives, the hosting and exchange of PhD students and the possibility for EUI doctoral candidates to serve as visiting lecturers and to engage in teaching and/or tutoring activities at the University of Bologna, based on specific agreements to be signed subsequently.
