The Library of the Department of History, Cultures, and Civilizations (divided into the sections of Archaeology Bologna, Archaeology Ravenna, Modern Sciences, Geography, Ancient History, Oriental Studies and Anthropology, Medieval Studies) offers students, faculty, and researchers a vast bibliographic collection of approximately 333,000 volumes, covering the various disciplinary areas involved in the PhD program: history, anthropology, geography, history of political thought, and political philosophy, area studies.
PhD students also have access to a wide range of electronic resources, databases, and scientific publications through the university library system.
The University Library System offers collections of books, journals, textbooks, and databases in both traditional and electronic formats, and provides bibliographic services to support teaching and research. It is organized into 24 libraries, with 47 access points and 4,500 reading spaces. The collection includes 5.6 million printed volumes, 5,800 subscriptions to print journals, 66,000 online journal subscriptions, 813,000 ebooks, 315 databases, and over 26,000 PhD and thesis dissertations.
Among the available services are: online catalogs, consultation, local and interlibrary loan, document delivery, assistance, and guidance in bibliographic research through tutorials and online services, and digital library platforms for the archiving and preservation of publications produced within the university. Other services offered to faculty and researchers include bibliometric services and support for Open Access initiatives.
