PhD students are allocated a budget amounting to at least 10% of the value of their scholarship to support research and training activities in Italy and abroad (€5,341.50 for the 41st cycle, €4,873 for previous cycles). PhD students from institutions in their own country (for example, CSC China Scholarship Council PhD students) and recipients of funding provided under international mobility programmes (for example, MSCA Doctoral Networks) are not eligible for this.
The budget set out above, which is available until the date on which the PhD is awarded, may be used for travel expenses, conference and course registration fees, and consumables.
The fund is managed by the direct supervisor, who authorises its use in consultation with the PhD student, based on the agreed study plan.
The procedures for using the 10% budget are determined by the doctoral student’s department.
Below are the guidelines for PhD students affiliated with the “Toso Montanari” Department of Industrial Chemistry.
The “Toso Montanari” Department of Industrial Chemistry has set up a specific accounting project for each PhD student, or an ad hoc allocation within a research project funded by national or international competitive grants, for those PhD students whose scholarships are funded through that project.
From the 40th cycle onwards, €2,500 is set aside as a precautionary measure to cover the costs of three months’ mobility abroad.
PhD students are guaranteed the opportunity to select their project when submitting a travel request via the U-WebMissioni system, as their name has been recorded in the accounting system under the role of ‘researcher’. Authorisation for the travel is granted by the supervisor or the fund holder.
