Academic requirements - Cycle 40 & 41

Doctoral Credits

Doctoral credits (DCs) represent a measure of the workload required to complete the training and research activities in the PhD programme.

The PhD programme requires the acquisition of a total of 180 DCs, divided as follows:

  • Research activities: they represent 80% of the total workload required and the acquisition of  144 DCs;
  • Research and teaching training activities: they represent 20%  of the workload required and the acquisition of 36 DCs.

The DCs from research activities are automatically validated upon successful year progression and upon admission to the final examination at the end of the third year.

The DCs from research and teaching training activities are awarded based on the training, teaching, and dissemination activities carried out, according to the information provided in point 8 of the ET-IT programme (available in the highlights box). You can request their validation through Dottorandi by following the instructions in the Operating Manual (also available in the highlights box).

Plan for the acquisition of the necessary Doctoral Credits

To support PhD students in meeting the required Doctoral Credits, the PhD Board requires the completion of a Study Plan, which must be agreed upon and signed by the supervisor.

The Plan is not strictly binding and can be revised each year. Its purpose is to:

  • serve as a formal agreement between the PhD student and the supervisor;
  • provide a clear roadmap and ensure that progress is monitored throughout the year, so that required credits and activities are completed in a timely manner.

Complete your Plan by 6th February
