PhD Student yearly assessment

Students enrolled in the Health and Technology PhD Course undergo a continuous monitoring, designed to support student activity and to promote the best teaching and research results.


At admission:

During the PhD board meeting at the beginning of November, the students admitted and registered in the PhD program present:

  • A brief outline of their PhD research project, focusing in particular on the activities to be developed during the first year;
  • A list of the teaching activities they are planning to attend*.

 

Evaluation at the end of the I and II year:

The students enrolled in the I and II year of the PhD course:

  • Compile a final year report to be submitted to the PhD board 1 month before the final year board meeting in October. The report must outline: i) the research activity developed during the year, highlighting the correspondence to the plan outlined the previous year and discussing possible discrepancies, ii) publications/patents resulting from the research activity, iii) teaching activities (attached to the end-of-year report, the student sends self-certification, in digital format, countersigned by the supervisor of the educational activity attended) iv) periods of time spent at foreign research institutions, v) the program of research and teaching activities* planned for the following year;
  • Present and discuss their research and teaching activity, as well as the plan for the following year, during the PhD board meeting in October.

The PhD board evaluates the activity and plan presented by each student during the October board meeting, also considering the evaluation provided by the supervisor. Admission of each student to the following year of the PhD course is conditional upon passing the board evaluation.

Evaluation at the end of the III year and admission to the final exam:

The students enrolled in the III year of the PhD course:

  • Compile a final report to be submitted to the PhD board 1 month before the final year board meeting in October; the report must outline i) the research activity developed during the year, highlighting the correspondence to the plan outlined the previous year and discussing possible discrepancies, ii) publications/patents resulting from the research activity, iii) teaching activities, iv) periods of time spent at foreign research institutions, v) the overall summary of PhD activity;
  • Present and discuss their research and teaching activity during the PhD board meeting in October.

 The PhD board evaluates the activity and plan presented by each student during the October board meeting, also considering the final evaluation provided by the supervisor. Admission of each student to the final PhD exam is conditional upon passing the board evaluation.

PhD thesis preparation and final exam:

Each student admitted to the final exam by the PhD board:

  • Submit the pdf final version of your thesis on PhD Thesis Review by 31/10 at 2 p.m. (local time), making this available to the external evaluators appointed by the Academic Board. Please, note that after the submission is completed, the title may no longer be modified.
  • Revises the thesis draft according to the received reviews and submits the final version of the PhD thesis to the review board of the final exam in March;
  • Presents and discusses their PhD research activity to the board of the Final Exam in May.

The acquisition of the PhD title is conditional upon passing the positive evaluation by the board of the final exam.

 

 

*The recommended teaching activity is yearly defined by the PhD board.
