OVERVIEW

The PhD Programme in Management of the University of Bologna is a 4-year full-time programme offered in English. The PhD Program aims to train research candidates who aim to become leading scholars in management disciplines at top rated universities and it offers specialization in two tracks: Management and Banking & Finance. Applications for the PhD Programme will open in March 2019

The Program offers candidates a broad and inter-disciplinary education in the fields of business, management and finance. It provides them with strong theoretical foundations in the disciplines of social sciences and a thorough knowledge of research methods applied to management and financial problems.

Doctoral students are expected to have full-time status, attend core and elective courses, participate in research projects conducted by Faculty members and present their works at research seminars, international conferences and international journals. All courses are held in English and our students are immersed in an international research environment, wherein several seminars, summer schools and workshops are organized with the participation of internationally renowned scholars. 

During their training Ph.D. candidates are encouraged to spend a period as visiting scholars abroad, in a University that fits their research interests. Candidates can attend courses and seminars offered by the hosting institution, establish stronger links with international faculties, and develop international research collaborations for their dissertation. To fund their stay abroad, Ph.D. candidates can eventually apply for the Unibo Marco Polo scholarship. 

Some of the institutions that have hosted in the past visiting students from the PhD program include: the Carnegie Mellon University, Cass Business School (City University London), Copenhagen Business School,  Haas School of Busines, HEC Paris, Imperial College London, Indian Institute of Management, INSEAD, London Business School, Kellogg School of ManagementMassachusetts Institute of TechnologyNorthwestern University, Stern School of Business (New York University), Texas A&M University, Tuck School of Business, University of California, Berkeley, Hitotsubashi University, Tokyo, University of Edimburgh, University of Chicago,  University of Michigan, and the Wharton Business School. 

Most of our Doctoral graduates have gained post-doc and tenured positions in top universities worldwide and have received best paper awards at several conferences, and their research outcomes have been published in top international journals including: Administrative Science Quarterly, Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Banking and Finance, Management Science, Organization Science, Psychological Science, Research Policy and many others.

The PhD benefits from close relations with the University of Bologna Business School (BBS), that offers Doctoral candidates the opportunity to be part of an international community of post-graduate and executive masters students, get in contact with research and innovative firms, and attend the talks given by international managers and entrepreneurs.
