A third degree of training, the beginning of a research path.
The PhD course in Visual, Performing and Media Arts is born in 2013 from the junction of the previous distinct PhD courses in Archaeology and Art History and in Cinema, Music and Theatre. The course covers in its didactic activity a broad spectrum of disciplines, methods and research interests.
Traditionally, the PhD course is aimed at the acquisition of historical, philological and critical high expertise, also in relation to conservation, transmission and enhancement issues of artistic, cinematographic, musical and theatrical cultural heritage. It is also developing an important expertise in the areas of communications and cultural marketing, with training paths in applied research, in order to favour employment not only in the academic sector, but also in relation to the diversified research needs of different stakeholders in the cultural and media area.
The teaching and research programme is built putting together seminarial work and field research, also thanks to the important structures (libraries, archives, specialist databases, etc.) that the Department of the Arts can offer to students.
The PhD course strongly encourages dissertations in joint supervision and, more broadly, the development of study and research periods in foreign Universities, in the most prestigious institutes across Europe, America and Asia.
A peculiar importance is given to the final dissertation, in many cases a first original research work providing a strong advance in the field of study. The overall quality of the course has resulted in a strong quantity of post-doc students employed both in academia and in the cultural sector and media industry.
