First and second year PhD candidates are required to follow educational activities for equaling 120 hours divided as:
- 30 hours identified between the master's degree courses, at the University of Bologna or other Universities. All the activities should be agreed with the reference tutor and certified by the teacher who teaches the course (Doctoral students who in previous years have obtained a master's degree in a specific University are invited to choose courses not already attended)
- 30 hours of internal activities proposed by the teachers of their PhD’s area
- 60 hours of free choice activities, agreed with the tutor and identified among conferences, workshops, seminars on the national and international territory
Third year doctoral PhD are required to follow training activities for 60 hours divided as follows:
- 30 hours of internal training activities proposed by the teachers of their subject area
- 30 hours of free choice training activities, agreed with the tutor, identified between conferences, workshops, seminars on the national and international territory, or, alternatively, a master's degree course of the same amount of hours
