Over the 3 years, each PhD student is required to complete a study, training and research stay abroad of at least 3 months (a stay divided into separate periods, usually lasting no less than a month, is acceptable). The students are encouraged to extend the period of stay out of UniBo up to 6 months, by including also periods in the Company or in Universities or Research Centers (both Italian and foreign) in addition to the minimum 3 months of stay abroad.
For the students of the 39th Cycle and of the previous Cycles, 6 credits will be recognized for each month spent abroad, up to a maximum of 18 credits.
The obligation can be extraordinarily waived for reasons of force majeure, such as illness, maternity/paternity and, for the case of Industrial Doctorates, lack of authorization by the employer due to unexpected changes of the working conditions in force at the time of the competition.
Students are requested to open the authorization procedure for the travel/period abroad at the Department of Industrial Engineering (DIN) for insurance and tracking purposes, whether she/he intends to request reimbursement of expenses (or daily allowance request) or if the period ends without any request for reimbursement.
