March 2023: Master Degree in Electronics Engineering from Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna. Thesis Title: “Spiking Neural Networks for Structural Health Monitoring based on vibration analysis”. Supervisor: Prof. Luca De Marchi.

March 2020: Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering from Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna. Thesis: " Python and Tensorflow implementation of a convolutional neural network for vehicle classification". Supervisor: Prof. Gianni Pasolini.

Her research interests focus on signal processing and machine learning associated with NDT Methods for damage detection, and their application in the creation of cyber-physical systems for SHM. Technical skills include electronic circuit design and machine learning frameworks.

Development of Edge AI solutions for continuous and real-time structural health monitoring.

Giacomo Donati graduated cum laude in electronic engineering in December 2022, with a master degree thesis entitled "Implementation of TinyML algorithms for structural health monitoring via acoustic emissions".

From January 2023 holds the position of research fellow at the Advanced Research Center on Electronic Systems "E. De Castro" (ARCES). His main interests and skills include hardware and firmware development of embedded systems and the implementation of algorithms and models for digital signal processing.

Deep Learning-based Depth Estimation for Safety-critical Automotive In-cabin Applications.

August 2022 – July 2023 Research Fellow at Computer Vision LAB, UNIBO, Italy. In this period, he developed a new deep learning technique for airborne obstacle detection, using a single camera and doubling the performances of pre-existing systems. He studied unsupervised techniques of domain adaptation and designed a strong dynamic Background subtraction algorithm with an accuracy greater than 90% in scenes with a moving camera. 

September 2021 – March 2022 Curricular internship, CV lab, UNIBO, Bologna, Italy. He studied depth estimation CNNs (both mono and stereo), gaining deep knowledge of the more popular computer vision software libraries and frameworks. In this period, he was focused on improving a state-of-the-art stereo depth estimation CNN with monocular reasoning.

Guidance and Control of underwater drones for monitoring and characterization of marine population.

I am Siva Kumar Mallipeddi, an Aerospace Engineer holding a master’s degree from the esteemed University of Bologna. My specialization lies in advanced Guidance and Control Systems, with a focus on Fault Detection and Diagnosis, as well as designing Fault Tolerant and Robust Control Systems. Proficient in MATLAB/Simulink, Microsoft Office, and LaTeX, I'm in the process of honing my skills in programming languages like Python, C, and C+. My professional journey includes research experience at the University of Bologna, where I delved Fault detection and Isolation unit for drones as part of project called Energy ECS. Additionally, I garnered hands-on expertise during my tenure as a Graduate Engineer Trainee at Tata Sikorsky Aerospace Limited. Currently on the path to pursuing a Ph.D., I am enthusiastic about contributing to the forefront of Engineering research.

Statistical-based assessment of anthropogenic and climatic influence on long term hydrological series.

I'm Gianluca Lelli and I'm an environmental engineer. During my studies I had found interest in topics relating to water managment and soil protection. With the aim of specializing in these fields, I chose a thesis in Water Resources Management entitled "Studio dell’influenza delle aree urbanizzate e irrigue sulla perdita di risorsa idrica superficiale in Italia’’.

During the realization of the master's thesis, I approached the world of research for the first time, by which I have been strongly fascinated.

I started working as a research fellow in April 2022 in the field of: “Sistemi modellistici per la valutazione della pericolosità idraulica dei corsi d’acqua”. During this period as a research fellow I was able to improve skills related to hydraulic modeling and water management.

Since my very beginning I’ve pursued in many themes related to CHs and their preservation processes. With my MSc thesis I had the opportunity to enhance my skills toward new approaches for structural modelling and analysis of historic structures. Meaningful results were achieved with Cloud2FEM software and AI-based coding approach.

Deploying an Interoperable and Scalable Data Platform for Structural Health Monitoring in the Cloud-Edge Continuum.

Leonardo obtained a Master in Management with major in Digital Business from HEC Paris in October 2021.

His Master’s thesis focused on the impact of technology on the news industry and its distribution channels. He also gained valuable experience in the fields of distributed ledger technology, data management and software development during his internships at ING Bank and Amazon, and his freelancing activity. 

Currently, Leonardo is a Ph.D. student under the supervision of  Professor Marco Di Felice; his research focuses on the interoperability of IoT devices and data management on the cloud/edge continuum.

Lorenzo Mistral Peppi

Lorenzo Mistral Peppi

Development of innovative sensor systems for structural monitoring and prognostics based on smart processes for predictive maintenance of structures and infrastructure.

Research fellow at ARCES - Advanced Research Center on Electronic Systems "Ercole De Castro", University of Bologna, since 2019. From that time, in collaboration with Department of Agriculture and Food Sciences and Technology of Unibo, the main activity concerns the design and development of systems and sensor nodes for crop monitoring in agriculture by means of non-destructive methods.

Other activities concern the development of wearable biomedical systems and the design and implementation of safety systems in the railway sector.  His research interests focus on development, testing and realization of electronic systems for a more sustainable environment, infrastructural sector, and industry.

From a personal point of view, a great passion for the field of pro audio has led him to investigate issues and challenges inherent in this field and to develop commercially available devices. Technical skills include a remarkable ability to prototype devices and their engineering. A strong manual skill and an in-depth knowledge, derived from the use, of both laboratory and workshop tools, allowed him to seamlessly move from concepts to prototypes, sometimes resorting to 'out-of-the-box' methodologies.

August 2022-July 2023: Research Intern in CoRE Lab at Peking University. The main activities can be divided into three parts: (1) Dataset creation for human activity understanding in biolab (2) Challenging benchmarks design (establish benchmarks for specific problems, especially ambiguous actions, and transparent object detection) (3) paper writing (this project is published on NeurIPS).

September 2021-June 2022: perception algorithm engineer at Beijing Tage IDriver Technology Co., Ltd, Beijing. The main tasks can be divided into three categories: (1) High robust 3D object detection R&D, especially in challenging environments, (2) Dataset creation for 3D object detection R&D, and (3) LiDAR and GPS calibration method development and deployment.

September 2020-February 2023: Master’s degree in Traffic Information Engineering and Control at Beihang University. Mater’s thesis is “Research on Challenging Object Detection using LiDAR for Roadside Perception”. The research aims to address the false alarms caused by challenging objects with limited features in complex environments. To this end, the study proposes a feature enhancement and cascading network for 3D object detection using LiDAR.
