Scholarships and Funding

Scholarships

All admitted candidates will receive a scholarship of approximately €16,243 gross per year for the three years of the doctoral programme. In addition, they will have access to up to €1,624.30 annually (for all three years of the doctorate) for mobility expenses related to research activities, along with a 50% increase in the scholarship proportional to the months spent abroad, up to a maximum of 12 months.

Opportunities for International Candidates

The doctoral programme is designed as an international learning environment that fosters exchange among doctoral candidates from different countries and with diverse academic backgrounds. Special attention is given to hosting candidates under co-supervision and those who may benefit from dedicated scholarships, facilitated by agreements with research support institutions in various countries.

Candidates from China can take advantage of the special scholarship agreement that the University of Bologna has established with the China Scholarship Council, while candidates from Brazil can benefit from the agreement with CONFAP.

The University’s position in the QS rankings for the doctoral programme’s disciplinary areas (32nd for Archaeology and between 51 and 100 for History) allows graduates from Chile and Paraguay to apply for the Becas Chile and BECAL scholarship programmes, which include this requirement.

Dedicated funding may be available for candidates from other countries (e.g. Iraq) based on specific projects promoted by the Department.

Graduates interested in these scholarship programmes or co-supervision exchanges are encouraged to contact the coordinator for advice and support.
