Seminars Coordinated by Licia Proserpio
These seminars are specifically designed to help PhD students successfully navigate the challenges of their doctoral research while building a strong professional and academic profile for their future careers.
“Introduction to Project Design for Securing Research Funding” – 3hours
12 May 2025 from 10 to 13 in Aula Gambi, San Giovanni in Monte
The objectives of this first three-hour seminar are twofold. On the one hand, it aims to provide a conceptual framework for building a project to attract funding for one's research career, as well as transferable design models and tools for different contexts/donors. On the other hand, it seeks to present the landscape of potential research funding, with a particular focus on EU institutions and the opportunities offered by the European Research Council (ERC). This first meeting is intended for students who have never attended similar seminars with the instructor.
“Looking for Post-docs?” – 2hours
15 May 2025 from 15 to 17 in Aula Gambi, San Giovanni in Monte
This two-hour seminar will focus on the key strategies for approaching postdoc applications effectively. Students will be guided through the process of identifying and crafting relevant materials, such as research proposals, CVs, and cover letters. Additionally, the seminar will explore the resources available to support decision-making, helping PhD students evaluate potential postdoc opportunities and institutions. By the end of the session, PhD students will have a clearer understanding of how to present themselve as a competitive candidate and how to strategically plan your postdoctoral career path.
“How to effectively communicate your PhD research” – 3 hours
16 May 2025 from 10 to 13 in Aula Gambi, San Giovanni in Monte
At the end of a PhD, it’s essential to have a clear plan for disseminating and communicating the results of the research journey. While PhD students have already developed the skills to express their ideas and engage in discussions with supervisors, peers, and colleagues, presenting PhD work beyond the academic setting requires a different approach. How can you present your PhD as a compelling book proposal? How can social media be used to showcase your achievements? And how can you expand your network to support your future career? These questions will be explored through a brainstorming session with third years PhD students, offering valuable insights and strategies for effectively promoting your work and building a successful career.
