The Bodily Co-Presence of Actors and Spectators

Performances differ from other art forms in that they take place in and as bodily co-presence of all involved – the performing artists and the onlookers. Whatever both parties do, how they behave, will have an effect on both. A performance comes into being out of their encounter. In my lecture, I shall discuss various historic and contemporary examples in order to draw some theoretical conclusions.

Erika Fischer-Lichte è docente alla Freie Universität di Berlino e direttrice dell’International Reserch Center “Interweaving Performance Cultures” presso la stessa università. I suoi interessi di ricerca e le sue pubblicazioni recenti si concentrano sull'intreccio delle culture della performatività nel contesto delle forme storiche e contemporanee di globalizzazione, sull'estetica trasformativa, sulla messa in scena delle tragedie greche antiche dal 1800 in avanti e sui concetti legati alla performance nelle lingue non europee. Fischer-Lichte ha pubblicato più di 30 libri e 300 saggi nel campo dell'estetica, della teoria della letteratura, dell'arte e del teatro, in particolare sulla semiotica e la performatività, la storia del teatro e il teatro contemporaneo. È autrice inoltre di Estetica del performativo. Una teoria del teatro e dell’arte, tradotto in italiano da Carocci, Roma, nel 2004.
