Students will interact with academic content both in writing and in reading. They will develop the ability to:
Identify the audience: A text for educated readers or a text for specialist readers
Identify the purpose of a text and understand its internal organization
Position a writer in a text through the use of yes/no questions
Define terms and build an academic vocabulary
Write effective and coherant paragraphs with topic sentence, support and concluding sentence
Generate ideas from sources to develop content
Present using slides: accessibility and inclusivity
Give critical peer feedback and use peer and teacher feedback
Writing assignments:
A personal statement
Transactional emails
An abstract
A summary of a talk
A summary of a text
Explaining / speculating on data in a visual
Presentation using slides
The course content will vary according to the specific needs of each new group of students.
