The scientific research carried out in the framework of DAST doctoral programme encompass the typical fields of Aerospace Engineering with a high degree of multidisciplinary, covering also topics of interest for the Industry 4.0 and for Big Data exploitation.
For example, DAST research groups develop advanced tools and algorithms for the exploitation of scientific data obtained by space missions focused on science, astrophysics and cosmology; the synergic combination of spaceborne and ground-based observations for the exploration of the solar system; the management, data mining and cross-correlation of the huge archives (Big Data) of scientific space missions, such as the Planetary Science Archive of the European Space Agency and the Planetary Data System of NASA.
Other research areas focus on advanced manufacturing processes based on additive manufacturing, and augmented reality for human-machine interface, which are of interest for the Industry 4.0.
Overall, six research groups contribute to DAST.
