Learning objectives

At the end of the course, PhD student will have a general perspective of the close relationship between infectious diseases, inflammation and immune response in human history. In particular, the harmful effects of inflammatory cells on the human microvasculature will be described focusing on hemolytic uremic syndrome as a model, as well as the long struggle of man and physicians against wounds and infectious diseases, and the strategy of vaccination as a protective response.
