PROFESSIONAL OPPORTUNITIES AND POTENTIAL AREAS OF USE OF THE PHD

The PhD selects and trains candidates with excellent professional potential.
The training provided can be used to reach top positions in public research institutions (such as Universities and IRCCS) and private, but also in international organizations, in health and pharmaceutical companies, in medical material industries, in Italy and abroad.
Among the most frequent employment opportunities are university research (not only in Italy but also abroad).

In particular, PhDs in Surgical Sciences can aspire to university positions in the field of medical surgical and dermatological sciences, biotechnology, bioengineering, behavioral sciences, in clinical and pharmacological research centers, in medical material industries. In addition, the skills and teachings learned from the Doctorate represent an added value for clinical practice, both in the public and in the private.

The AlmaLaurea report (https://www.studenti.it/dottorato-di-ricerca-lavoro-analisi-almalaurea.html) shows that among the PhDs of 2016 interviewed a year after obtaining the degree, the employment rate is equal to 83.5%

 

The 39th cycle of  the PhD course is being evaluated for ministerial accreditation. Therefore, the information contained on the site relates to active cycles.

The research activity occurs mainly in the reference research branches structures (Dermatology Unit, Maxillofacial Surgery Unit, etc.) of the IRCCS Policlinico di Sant'Orsola - Via Giuseppe Massarenti 9, Bologna.

Inside the hospital, there are also the Department of Diagnostic and Experimental Specialized Medicine laboratories - Policlinico Sant'Orsola-Malpighi, Pavilion 11, Bologna.

Most of the facilities and associated research laboratories (Pharmacy, Chemistry, Biology, Physiology, Anatomy, etc.) are located near the hospital.
