Access to Ph.D. Programmes is by selection. The University selection call is issued annually for all Ph.D. Programmes, and is published on UNIBO website

To be eligible, the applicant must possess a MSc degree (or equivalent) or, otherwise, he/she can be admitted to the evaluation procedure but it is mandatory to obtain it no later than October 31st, 2020.

Candidates will be asked to specify their interest in applying for one of the ten research topics involved in our PhD programme.

Each scholarship amounts to approx. € 15,343.28 gross per year (€ 13,500.00 net) and is paid on a monthly basis. The amount of the grant is increased by 30% during visits abroad of no less than 1 month and no more than 18 months. The full-time scholarships will be assigned to the best applicants on a competitive basis.

For the 35th cycle (2019-2022)31 Ph.D. positions were available (see STAAA PhD programme table).

The University of Bologna offered 47 PhD programme degrees (37 in English) in AY 2018/19, covering all thematic areas.
There were 1,423 registered PhD students in AY 2018/2019, including 96% with a scholarship or equivalent funding, of which more than 1/3rd funded by public bodies and private companies. 
During AY 2018/2019, 242 PhD students were foreign citizens.
A total of 83 co-tutorship agreements were signed with foreign Universities between January 2018 and March 2019. 
Five years on, 92.7% of PhD graduates have found employment.
