PhD Call for Applications NOW OPEN! (38° CYCLE, 2022-2025)

Do you feel sincerely and passionately interested in agricultural and food sciences? If so, a third-cycle education might be for you. The PhD Programme in Agricultural, Environmental and Food Science and Technology (STAAA) offers specialization in ten broad fields of the Agricultural & Food Sciences that reflect the focus of the DISTAL which is one of Italy's foremost Department in this field. For the 38th cycle (2022-2025), by now the following 19 Ph.D. positions are available:

- 11 Ph.D. positions for research projects in any field of Agricultural and Food Sciences with scholarship funded by the University of Bologna and DISTAL (see research topics)

6 Ph.D. positions with scholarship linked to the topic "Water-Food-Energy-Sustainable agriculture Nexus" funded by the DISTAL in the framework of the “Departments of Excellence” initiative

1 Ph.D. position with scholarship linked to the topic " Sustainable agricultural water management in the context of Water-Food-Energy-Sustainable Agriculture Nexus" co-funded by MUR under the “Departments of Excellence” initiative and the DISTAL with funds made available by the project H2020 WATERAGRI (G.A. No. 858375, Ref. Attilio Toscano)

1 Ph.D. position with scholarship linked to the topic " Water-Food-Energy Sustainable Agriculture Nexus: a system approach to the sustainability of fruit, forest and ornamental tree productions" co-funded by MUR under the “Departments of Excellence” initiative and the DISTAL

To be eligible, the applicant must possess a MSc degree (or equivalent) or, otherwise, he/she can be admitted to the evaluation procedure but it is mandatory to obtain it no later than October 31, 2021.

Each scholarship amounts to approx. € 16,243 gross per year (€ 14,000.00 net) and is paid on a monthly basis. The amount of the grant is increased by 50% during visits abroad of no less than 1 month and no more than 12 months. The full-time scholarships will be assigned to the best applicants on a competitive basis.

The University of Bologna offered 47 PhD programme degrees (37 in English) in AY 2018/19, covering all thematic areas.
There were 1,423 registered PhD students in AY 2018/2019, including 96% with a scholarship or equivalent funding, of which more than 1/3rd funded by public bodies and private companies. 
During AY 2018/2019, 242 PhD students were foreign citizens.
A total of 83 co-tutorship agreements were signed with foreign Universities between January 2018 and March 2019. 
Five years on, 92.7% of PhD graduates have found employment.
