The annual fun science event of that puts researchers centre-stage in more than 250 cities all over Europe is back again, thanks to the SOCIETY Project.
The 2019 European Researchers’ Night, scheduled for Friday 37 September in more than 250 cities all over Europe, will be coming to Bologna, Cesena, Forlì, Ravenna and Rimini: a night packed with events, performances, conferences, exhibitions, guided tours, treasure hunts and workshops to put the world of research on show and attract young people to the idea of a career in science. The 100+ activities in Bologna and the university campus cities of Cesena, Forlì, Ravenna and Rimini and also in Predappio and Faenza, involving of two hundred researchers, are part of the European project “SOCIETY. In Search of Certainty – Interactive Event To inspire Young people”. The project, coordinated by the University of Bologna, has some of the most important research centres in the area amongst its partners: the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), the Bologna area National Research Council (CNR), the National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF), the Italian Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN), the Interuniversity Consortium CINECA – SCAI, together with Formicablu, communication agency. On European Researchers’ Night, the public (children, young people, adults, families, …) can discover for themselves how research is often the most effective tool we have for suggesting useful and innovative solutions for the whole of society. The activities will develop along multiple paths, in a pattern that resembles the lines and stations of an urban rail network. Each line represents a challenge or discipline, with researchers illustrating current ideas and research in the different areas in fascinating, interactive ways. Experiments, theatre performances, workshops, scientific aperitifs, guided tours, treasure hunts, meetings and exhibitions lead visitors to the discovery of the secrets of the universe, ideas for a sustainable planet, health, wellness and an inclusive society, creativity, the technologies of tomorrow and the traditions and future of food.

The European Researchers’ Night has the patronage of the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Emilia Romagna Region, the Regional Legislative Assembly and the municipalities of Bologna, Cesena, Ravenna, Faenza, Rimini, Forlì and Predappio. The European Researchers’ Night, first staged in 2005, is an initiative of the European Commission in which researchers from all EU countries meet the public in an evening of science and fun. SOCIETY is one of the six projects in Italy selected by the European Commission in the Horizon 2020 Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions Programme.
